Recently, a new customer asked for some explanation about the upper working temperature limit of a PUR-insulated sandwich panel. He had some concerns about placing an oven in a laboratory made of a structural sandwich panel. Information on the behavior of insulated sandwich panels towards temperature is quite scarce, therefore we want to clear this point up.

What do we mean by “temperature”? The temperature of the surrounding environment, as the heating produced by the sunlight or by a running engine, e.g. an evaporator or an oven.

Permanent temperature hikes on a metal sandwich panel can lead to dimensional changes, loss of shape and strength, thermal decomposition, and even worse consequences. Therefore, in specific applications, we suggest paying attention to these working temperature limits of the insulated sandwich panel. The information that we suggest considers reports the lower and upper-temperature application limits in °C and °F.

It states the temperature at which a metal sandwich panel can usually be loaded without destruction or change occurring. The duration of heating plays a vital role over an insulated metal panel that permanently heats up, for example, in a roof application under the sunlight. • PIR insulated sandwich panels from -40°C up to 80°C (from -40°F up to 176°F);
• Rock Wool insulated sandwich panels from 0°C up to 100°C (from 32°F up to 212°F).

Although these temperature ranges may appear conservative, we prefer to use this approach as a general guideline.
