THE AIR-CONDITIONED PIR INSULATED DUCT BOARD SYSTEM: FIRE CLASSIFICATION
We are starting today a series of articles about the A/C PIR insulated duct board. PIR insulated duct boards is a brilliant system to build ducts for air conditioning.
WHAT IS THE AIR – CONDITIONED PIR INSULATED DUCT BOARD SYSTEM?
It’s a system that uses pre-insulated boards made of PIR foam to create A/C ducts.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A/C PIR DUCT SYSTEM?
The advantage of the A/C PIR duct system is that one product both closes and insulates the fresh air inside it. Other significant benefits of this system are lightness, practicality, and durability.
WHAT ARE THE FIRE CLASS OF AIR – CONDITIONING PIR DUCT SYSTEM?
A/C ducts have to be produced and tested to comply with strict fire regulations. Why so? Because A/C ducts run through the whole building, and in case of fire, they may spread the flame.
Our A/C PIR Insulated Ductboards have a B, s1-d0 classification. Therefore, they have the best reachable reaction to fire among organic foams. They also have low smoke production, and no incandescent drops let out.
CASE STUDY: EUROPEAN VS AMERICAN FIRE NORMS
We have recently coped with a case where a firefighter office asked us to explain the fire reaction classification of our A/C PIR Insulated Ductboard.
In this case, the local Costa – Rican law requested a UL 181 approval for A/C Insulated Ductboard.
As Globe Panels’s A/C PIR Insulated Ductboards come from Europe, we test them as per European Fire Prevention Norms, in this case, the EN 13501.
We invested some time to improve our knowledge of EN 13501 and UL 181. Thanks to our findings and our installer cooperation, we could explain the tests that we run on A/C PIR Insulated Ductboards and clarify what the test report means.
What does that mean for an installer that purchases our A/C PIR Insulated Ductboards?
It means that our customers can be confident that our product is first quality and tested by the utmost stringent fire prevention norms.
It also means that our customers can rely on us for any further help to make their work easier.
